West Ham are confident of signing Chelsea forward Armando Broja this summer, sources have told Nothing But Newcastle

What’s the latest Newcastle United transfer news?

The striker, who could yet be given a chance to impress Thomas Tuchel in the early stages of pre-season, is one of David Moyes’ leading targets this summer.

Broja scored 6 goals in 21 Premier League starts on loan at Southampton last season and, at only 20, looks a real talent. Already a senior international with Albania, the forward has been linked with Newcastle as a potential alternative to Hugo Ekitike.

Sources, however, have told NBN that West Ham remain in discussion with Chelsea over a potential £30m move and, at this stage, are confident of sealing a deal.

Would Broja be a good signing for Newcastle?

A new striker is believed to be high up on the club’s agenda this summer, with a focus on landing a player capable of playing with Callum Wilson.

Obviously, the 30-year-old’s injury record would likely mean a new arrival would need to be comfortable playing up front on his own too, a profile Broja would fit.

Last season, the forward played alongside Che Adams on a number of occasions and was even deployed as a right-winger.

In fact, only Wilson outscored Broja from a Newcastle perspective last time out and it would certainly be exciting to watch a player to have already made an impact in the Premier League at a young age develop under Eddie Howe.

What has been said about Broja?

Speaking in January, Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl hailed Broja as “dangerous”.

“He’s a great threat,” he told BBC Sport.

“He has not had many poor games this season and today he showed again how dangerous he can be for the opponent and he’s very helpful for our game.”
