Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspurs are the two Premier League clubs interested in signing Eintracht Frankfurt forward Omar Marmoush this summer, according to BILD.

The Magpies have been on a path of progression since their takeover in late 2021, however, this season has seen the project stagnate as the club struggle with squad depth, Financial Fair Play regulations, and a huge injury crisis.

Newcastle currently find themselves 10th in the Premier League table – 15 points adrift from their most recent finish inside the top four – and out of the Champions League, but they do have the opportunity to end their long trophy drought as they progressed to the FA Cup quarter-finals last night.

Indeed, there have been many contributing factors as to why Newcastle haven’t been able to emulate their impeccable form of last season, including their inability to spend in the transfer market as much as they would’ve liked to.

The North East outfit has had to be extremely strategic in their approach to snapping up new signings as they have not been able to sell any players of a high value due to a lack of squad depth and the legacy that Mike Ashley left behind, meaning they have found their spending stumped by FFP rules.

However, the summer ahead could be transformative for the Magpies as they look to improve the squad and learn from the mistakes of this season to ensure they can consistently challenge to break up the top six and gain qualification into European football every season.

According to BILD (via Shields Gazette), both Newcastle and Spurs could battle it out to snap up the services of Eintracht Frankfurt forward Omar Marmoush this summer.

It is claimed that the Magpies are prioritising the signing of a striker this summer after a lack of availability between their two goal-scoring machines Callum Wilson and Alexander Isak.

There has also been speculation that Wilson’s long-term future is not promised at St. James’ Park, which would make sense if the club are keen on bringing in another centre-forward.

Who is Omar Marmoush?

Whilst Harry Kane has stolen the spotlight in the Bundesliga at Bayern Munich this season, the Frankfurt star has been a lethal and consistent presence for this club in the central role of the attacking threat.

Over 18 appearances, the 25-year-old has scored 10 goals, registered five assists, and created five big chances so far, as well as averaging 2.3 shots on goal, 1.4 key passes, 3.1 ball recoveries, and 1.2 successful dribbles per game, according to SofaScore.

Not only that, the Egyptian star ranks in the top 15% of his positional peers in the top five European leagues for assists, progressive carries, successful take-ons, and interceptions per 90 minutes played over the last 12 months, displaying his strengths beyond his goal-scoring efforts and his ability to look after the ball when in possession.

Marmoush has been a revelation at Frankfurt and has been integral in the club’s performances, something his coach Dino Toppmöller has been vocal about this season:

“He brings a completely different energy to our attacking play through his penetrating runs and tireless work rate.”

Indeed, bringing in an out and out striker would be advantageous, however, Marmoush could offer crucial depth to both the striker role and on the left wing as he has bags of experience in the wider position too, meaning he could also link up with Alexander Isak instead of replacing him in the starting line-up.

With that being said, it would be interesting to see if Newcastle make a move for Marmoush this summer as he would be a fantastic asset, but with financial fair play issues hanging over the club it would be no surprise to see an exit sanctioned before they focus on any incomings.
