As is fairly customary under the current ownership regime, Newcastle United have been linked with a number of players in the January transfer window but little has actually materialised. While Steve Bruce has recently revealed that he was due to meet Mike Ashley to thrash out a plan for what remains of the month, the Daily Mail’s Craig Hope has previously suggested that there is nothing imminent to come on that front for the Magpies.
However, while moves to strengthen the first-team look slow right now, recent reports online have suggested that the Toon Army have bolstered their youth ranks. Indeed, as per the Scottish Sun, the Chronicle and the player’s own social media, the club have signed Queen’s Park youngster, Reagan Thomson.

The 16-year-old midfielder is understood to have penned a two-and-a-half-year deal on Tyneside after rejecting moves to both Celtic and Rangers, having progressed through the same youth academy as Liverpool star Andy Robertson. Indeed, Newcastle are believed to have had keen eyes cast on him for month after watching him impress for Scotland U17s with Thomson following the likes of Kyle Scott and Jake Turner as recent youth signings.
With that in mind, here’s a look at some of the reaction online.
