So far, it’s been a slow month for Newcastle United in the transfer window. Indeed, despite their alarming dip in form across the festive period, coupled with an injury crisis Steve Bruce himself described as ‘crazy’, the Magpies are yet to add anyone to their ranks.
With that in mind and, for most clubs, perhaps the idea of the owner and manager meeting up for a discussion on a plan of action for the remaining few days of the month in an attempt to thrash out some sort of plan would seem fairly promising. Still, this is the Toon Army we’re talking about.
Prior to tonight’s FA Cup clash with Rochdale at St. James’ Park, Bruce revealed that he was due to meet up with Mike Ashley and backed the Sports Direct mogul to support him in the days to come, having backed big summer moves of Joelinton and Allan Saint-Maximin.

However, given Ashley’s villainous status on Tyneside and the fact former manager Rafa Benitez didn’t feel backed by him in the transfer market, you can imagine the reaction amongst fans on social media. Responding to the Chronicle’s clip of Bruce’s pre-match press conference, here’s a look at some of it.
It’s the 14th of January. Anyone with any foresight and genuine interest in squad strengthening would have been having these discussions on the 14th of November.
