Newcastle United are attempting to drum up Championship interest in winger Rolando Aarons, according to the Northern Echo

The regional newspaper report that the Magpies are keen to secure a season-long loan exit for the 22-year-old after Rafa Benitez told managing director Lee Charnley to figure out an exit for the youngster.

The Northern Echo claim that the club are awaiting a response from several second-tier clubs, with Charnley said to be hopeful that a deal would be agreed before the loan window closes at the end of the month.

OPINION

It has always been expected that Newcastle would attempt to work out an exit for Aarons this summer after his failure to push on at all in his development in recent years. Off-pitch issues have not done the talented youngster any favours and a year in the Championship looks to be a good way of trying to get his career back on track again. Aaron has long been seen as one of the club’s most promising young players but has done little to really show that assessment was correct. His talent is obvious to those in the know at the club but Benitez has obviously deemed him surplus to requirements for this season, which is no surprise. There is little chance of Aarons being able to compete for a first-team spot right now, and hopefully there will be a Championship side willing to take a punt on him this term.
