Seriously, why did Newcastle United let Aleksandar Mitrovic go in January?
It’s fair to say this season has not gone completely to plan for Rafa Benitez’ Newcastle United this season.
After winning the Championship last season in impressive fashion, the Toon were expected to continue their resurgence in the Premier League and re-live their former glories.
However, times have been tough at St James’ Park this season and the side sit in 13th place in the Premier League table, with five points separating them from Crystal Palace in 18th spot in the division.
It is worrying times for the Toon, and one of the biggest worries for Benitez is the lack of goals the team are scoring.
Newcastle have notched just 30 league goals this season and just cannot seem to find the right formula when it comes to their strikers, with Dwight Gayle and Joselu not firing in the goals as frequently as fans will have liked.
It begs the question, why did Benitez sanction a loan move away for Aleksandar Mitrovic to Fulham in the January transfer window.
The Serbian frontman has looked like a man possessed in the second tier, and has scored five goals in his seven appearance for the west London side.
His hold-up play, superb finishing ability and willingness to run the channels has seen him become a fan favourite at Craven Cottage already.
Newcastle are missing an aggressive striker like Mitro, who will wear his heart on his sleeve and give everything to the cause.
Toon’s match with Southampton on Saturday was absolutely massive, with the Saints situated one point and one place below them in 17th spot in the table prior to kick off, but the Toon ran-out 3-0 winners in a superb display.
In front of a packed out St James’ Park, we fancy the Toon to give Huddersfield a real game in their next PL fixture, and a home win could very much be on the cards, so it is definitely worth a free bet.
