Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez faces a big week ahead as he seeks to bolster his squad for the challenge that lies ahead, as the Magpies seek to retain their status in the Premier League and avoid an immediate return to the Championship.
Benitez is keen to improve his ranks in the final week of the January window and is seeking financial strength from Mike Ashley in the market. Whilst it’s been difficult in the past, it now appears that Ashley is willing to fund big deals.
As such, there’s a chance that the Magpies could finally break their 13-year old transfer record this week in an attempt to salvage their Premier League campaign to ensure that Michael Owen is no longer the most expensive player in the club’s history.
