The man that led Newcastle United to the Championship title last season with a flurry of goals is yet to open his account in the Premier League, which puts him in danger of slipping out of the squad due to Aleksandar Mitrovic and Joselu.
Joselu, scorer of the equalising goal against Liverpool, has established himself as the first-choice attacker following his £5m move from Stoke City in the summer and Gayle needs to up his performances to change that.
He also needs to improve to keep Aleksandar Mitrovic out of the side, as the Serbian striker will be eyeing a return in the first-team having recently served a three-match suspension.
