Lucas Perez presents problems for Newcastle United amid striker search

It’s been a relatively frustrating summer for Newcastle United thus far as Rafa Benitez prepares for life back in the Premier League.

Indeed, while he was been able to bring some exciting talents in since winning promotion from the Championship, much has been made about the 57-year-old’s happiness on Tyneside.

Benitez described the market as ‘crazy’ earlier this summer and reports from the Shields Gazette furthers that narrative. They claim that, while the Magpies ARE keen on a move for Arsenal forward Lucas Perez, they only want him at the right price.

The Gunners have previously been reported to value the Spaniard at £13.4m, with Newcastle not thought to be willing to meet that, despite the fact Benitez is understood to be desperate for a new forward.

Perez himself would apparently have to alter his wages if he was to make a move up to Tyneside and this story only adds to the frustrating summer at St. James’ Park thus far.

None of Dwight Gayle, Ayoze Perez and Aleksandar Mitrovic have proved overly prolific in the top flight, so a new marksman is needed if the Toon Army are to establish themselves there once more.
