Ivan Toney is on his way on loan to Wigan Athletic.
According to a report in the Shields Gazette the Newcastle striker should complete the formalities of a season long loan within the next 24 hours.
Toney spent last season on loan at Shrewsbury and Scunthorpe but fell short of convincing Rafa Benitez that he was ready for action in the top flight.
The 21 year old scored a double last week against Celtic as Newcastle won the Whitby Town tournament with Wigan Athletic keen to get him on board for their promotion bid.
Wigan were relegated from the Championship last season after going through three managers but with Paul Cook in charge they are planning on a quick return to the Championship.
Newcastle signed Toney from Northampton two years ago but he has struggled to make an impact at St James’ Park with the Wigan deal his fifth loan since joining Newcastle.
