According to a report in The Express, Rafa Benitez is weighing up whether to make a move for Real Madrid’s back up keeper.
Whether Benitez has grown fed up waiting on news from Napoli over Pepe Reina or whether it’s a ploy to force the issue for the former Liverpool keeper remains to be seen.
Casilla has played second fiddle to Keylor Navas this season with Real appearing close to finally getting their hands on David de Gea after a long term chase for the Manchester United keeper.
That move would kill off any hopes of Casilla making the breakthrough at Real forcing the 30-year-old to look elsewhere for opportunities.
Benitez is focussing his transfer activity on England and Spain with his Spanish network highlighting the availability of Casilla as the former Real Madrid boss seeks the experience needed for Newcastle’s return to the Premier League.
