Newcastle are keen to bring Jacob Murphy to St James’ Park.
According to a report in The Chronicle the Norwich winger is in the transfer thoughts of Rafa Benitez after impressing in last season’s Championship.
Murphy is currently with the England u-21 squad at the European Championship finals in Poland after notching 11 goals last season for Norwich.
Benitez has been looking to add pace and width to his squad since the January failure to bring Andros Townsend back from Crystal Palace.
Norwich rate Murphy in the £12m range but Newcastle are expected to make an opening offer of around £8m.
At the end of last season Norwich announced a number of cost cutting measures after failing to win promotion back to the Premier League and are prepared to listen to offers for any players but with Murphy impressing for England it seems certain that Newcastle will have to raise their offer.
