Lyon have entered the race to sign Montpellier attacking midfielder Ryad Boudebouz, according to Le Progres (via Get France Football News).

Newcastle were reportedly offered the 27 year old in the January transfer window and it seems the player is again available for transfer with the Algerian international having been told he can leave for €10million (£8.5m).

The Chronicle reported back in January that Newcastle chief scout Graham Carr has been a big fan of Boudebouz in the past but manager Rafa Benitez was said to be prioritising other targets.

Whether the situation has changed now the Magpies are in the Premier League, it remains to be seen. Boudebouz has had a good season in France having scored 11 goals, and provided 9 assists in 32 Ligue One appearances this campaign.

Although it is likely Newcastle will target a creative midfielder over the summer, it seems that Benitez prefers Fulham midfielder Tom Cairney, who plays in a similar position to Boudebouz, making any bid for the Montpellier star somewhat unlikely at the moment.
