Newcastle midfielder Isaac Hayden says he is preparing to come back from holiday five weeks early in order to prepare himself for the Premier League.

Despite being an Arsenal player for eight years, he has never featured in a top flight match, although he did make two appearances for the Gunners in the League Cup.

Speaking to the Chronicle, Hayden says he wants to come back from the off season as early as possible in order to keep improving his game when he has the time to do so:

“I can’t speak for everybody else, but I’ll have two weeks off and I’ll be dying to come back. I love playing and I love improving and becoming a better player.”

“The off-season, I know it’s a rest and obviously you are there to rest, but it’s seven weeks. It gives you a good chance to work on your body and improve aspects that you might not have improved during the season because of so many games.”

Hayden was a regular for Rafa Benitez in the Championship this season, making 31 starts and 38 appearances in total, mainly in a holding midfield role. With the Magpies boss looking for new recruits, the 22 year old may be expecting some extra competition for his place in the starting eleven next season, and is seeking to gain an advantage by putting in extra training sessions.
