Sunderland left back Bryan Oviedo has become the third Black Cats player to be linked with a controversial switch to Newcastle.

Both goalkeeper Jordan Pickford and striker Jermain Defoe have been associated with a move from Wearside to Tyneside in recent weeks, and according to Fubolcentralamerica.com the former Everton full back is now also in Magpies boss Rafa Benitez’s sights.

Oviedo joined Sunderland along with Everton team mate Darron Gibson last summer, after spending five years on Merseyside. The 27 year old has however only managed 14 games in the Premier League this campaign and has been sidelined with a hamstring injury for the last three games.

The Costa Rican international could be lined up to give current first choice full back Paul Dummett a bit more competition. Rafa Benitez has used summer signing Achraf Lazaar sparingly this season and it looks likely the Moroccan will be allowed to leave the club in the summer after playing just nine games for Newcastle in all competitions.
