Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez is interested in securing a move for Burnley goalkeeper Tom Heaton, according to the Sun.

The Magpies will have to fight off Crystal Palace to sign the England international though, and it is likely Burnley boss Sean Dyche will also fight tooth and nail to keep the 31 year old at Turfmoor.

The Sun report that Heaton could be available for £15million, but Newcastle’s interest will undoubtedly depend on how large the club’s summer transfer budget will be.

It is believed that Benitez will meet with owner Mike Ashley next week about the club’s transfer plans with the Chronicle suggesting a transfer kitty close to £100m.

Tim Krul and Freddie Woodman will return from their loan spells in July to join up with Karl Darlow, Matz Sels and Rob Elliot, and with five senior goalkeepers already on the books at the Magpies, it may be the case that a keeper will drop down the priority list if the budget is lower than anticipated.
