Newcastle midfielder Henri Saivet has refused to talk about his future at the Magpies.

The Frenchman is currently on loan at Saint-Etienne, and speaking at a press conference prior to their match against Bordeaux tonight, the 26 year old says his sole focus is ensuring that the Ligue One side qualify for the Europa League. He is quoted by WIW Sport as saying:

“The most important thing is the club. Loaned or not, I want to help the team achieve its goals. The most important thing for Saint-Etienne is that it qualifies for Europe next season. My only concern is to help the club achieve this goal.”

Saint-Etienne are currently seventh in the league, but could close to within four points of Bordeaux in fifth place tonight, with a game in hand over their rivals.

Saivet has been a regular with Saint-Etienne this season, making 31 appearances in all competitions scoring one goal, and providing three assists. Yet, it has been reported in the French press that manager Christophe Galtier is not keen on keeping the midfielder beyond the end of the season. He may well end up back at Newcastle for pre-season training in the summer.
