Newcastle attacking midfielder Siem De Jong has reiterated his desire to remain a Magpies player after he returns from his loan spell at PSV Eindhoven in the summer.

The 28 year old had a wretched time with injuries during his two years on Tyneside, and was loaned back to his homeland by manager Rafa Benitez in order to get games this season, but talking to NIS (translated by Clubcall.com), De Jong says he wants to win over the Spaniard and fight hard to work his way into his first team plans for next season:

“I feel strong and fit. I’m in a rhythm and that’s fine. We are going to talk about it. I want to go for my chance at Newcastle and I would also like to fight hard.”

De Jong originally struggled for game time at PSV after moving to the Eredivisie but since the New Year he has played an important role in helping the Dutch club hit a good run of form.

Playing alongside his brother Luuk, he has helped PSV win five of their last six games, scoring four goals in the process. He was however only named on the bench for the weekend’s 5-0 win over Willem II. Despite only losing two games this season, the Eredivisie club are still five points behind league leaders Feyenoord with four games to go.
