Andre AyewAccording to Le10Sport, Newcastle United have turned their attentions to Marseille and Ghanaian star Andre Ayew and look set to pip Premier League club Liverpool to his signature.

As Newcastle continue to scour France for more additions to their squad from Ligue 1, the Magpies’ interest appears to have settled on 23-year-old Marseille star Andre Ayew.

Ayew, who has been at Marseille since 2005, already has 43 caps for Ghana to his name and is remarkably experienced for someone so young.

The Ghanaian is a versatile footballer who can play on the wing or up top, but with Yohan Cabaye’s impending departure, Newcastle could offer Ayew plenty of game time in his preferred position in the middle of the park.

Andre had a solid season in France last year, scoring 9 times in 35 appearances, but didn’t quite reach previous heights that saw him awarded the BBC African Footballer of the Year award at the end of 2011.

Ayew has a release clause of 18 million Euros, but is expected to be available for around 10m as Marseille are thought to be interested in entertaining lower bids.

Liverpool could well re-enter the race for Ayew as their attempts to sign Willian seem to have been stumped by London clubs Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea.

However, there are enough Ayews to go round for everyone, as Andre’s younger brother Jordan also plays for Marseille!
