Kolbeinn SigthorssonNewcastle United and Arsenal seem to be involved in a lot of transfer activity together recently, what with the whole Yohan Cabaye situation, but this time the Premier League pair are being linked with Iceland and Ajax striker Kolbeinn Sigthórsson by TribalFootball.com.

The young centre forward joined Ajax in 2011, having impressed in his one and only season for AZ in which he scored 15 goals at a strike rate of one in two.

Ajax paid around £4 million for the Icelander who has gone on to represent his country 15 times, netting on 9 occasions.

His impressive strike rate is no different for the Amsterdam club, as he has the record of 16 goals in 32 Eredivisie appearances, with the latest of those being a brace against Feyenoord at the Amsterdam Arena at the weekend.

Sigthórsson has struggled with injuries during his time in Holland, being ruled out for six months due to a fractured ankle in the 2011/12 season.

However, he is beginning to feature more regularly for the Eredivisie champions in recent times and his second against Feyenoord came off the underside of the bar and went in.

The 6ft 1in striker is a presence up top and it will be interesting to see whether the Magpies or the Gunners make a move for the Icelandic international before the transfer window slams shut.

If Wenger were to go for this guy it will confirm he is really deluded. What the gunners need is a rvp clone. Can Wenger guarantee this guy can score 20 plus goals? So many wc kids have come and faded away.
Hopefully he will go for the proven product and not some promising player who will be a waste of time.
