Newcastle target Salomon KalouNewcastle United aren’t a club to turn down a bargain and with former Chelsea forward Salomon Kalou available on a free transfer, Alan Pardew might just make his move to take the Ivorian to Tyneside.

According to talkSPORT, Newcastle have been in touch with Kalou in regards to a move this summer, which might just appeal to the versatile forward.

Champions League winner Kalou does reportedly have other offers on the table though, with Bundesliga club Schalke offering the opportunity for Salomon to play in Europe’s top competition next season.

However, Kalou may be tempted to stay in the Premier League and remind fans of English football just what he’s capable of.

Although a very good player, you feel that Kalou never hit top gear consistently at Stamford Bridge, despite playing nearly 250 games for Chelsea and scoring 60 goals.

At times Kalou can be a frustrating player, as he has plenty of talent but doesn’t always deliver, but his record of 17 goals in 48 appearances for the Ivory Coast shows just what he’s capable of.

At 26 years of age, Kalou just falls within Newcastle’s policy of buying players who are 26-years-old and younger and him being available on a free transfer is obviously a massive bonus.

However, he would be another player jetting off to the African Cup of Nations early next year, where he’d join up with Cheick Tiote for the Ivory Coast.

On balance, as Newcastle wouldn’t have to pay a transfer fee, I think Salomon Kalou would be a good signing for the Magpies. Do you agree?

No chance he is coming. Would want over £100,000/week in wages, and Newcastle would never offer that. End of story.

Chelsea Season ticket here in peace.

    Congratulations on a fantastic season.
Kalou is a poor poor player who flaters to , well you get my point.
He is the most frustarting, the most, clumsy, he most comical player I have already seen.
If you sign him on a free he will want a big signing on fee or a huge wage or a combination of both and he really isnt worth it.

Wrong. While it is true that Kalou might be frustrating at times, he is one of the most dutiful and hardworking professionals I’ve ever seen. Never complains, even though he spends most of the season on the bench. Plays mostly on the wings even though he is a centre forward and still, never complains. He holds Chelsea’s record of most goals as a substitute. Willing to track back and help the full backs when necessary and always willing to sacrifice his trickery and flamboyance all for the good of the team. A good servant no doubt. For free he’d be a great signing for Newcastle. Chelsea fan here.
