Ajax goalkeeper Tim Krul says he hopes to return to full training by the end of September; a full year of suffering a serious knee injury back in October last year.

The 28 year old was allowed to leave Newcastle on loan this summer with Magpies manager Rafa Benitez aware that the Dutchman would not be available for the first two months of the Championship season, leading to the purchase of his replacement in Matz Sels.

Talking to Ajax TV (helpfully translated by the Newcastle Evening Chronicle), Krul is excited by making his return to first team action:

“I’ve done a lot of testing in the last few days and it is going very well. The facilities are top notch and the medical staff is superb. I still have to build for a few more weeks and I’m taking it day by day.

“We’ll see how things go, but I want to make sure the end of September I am right. A little push should be all that is needed.”

Knee injuries are particularly troublesome for goalkeepers as they put extra pressure on the area to push off to make saves.

Krul will replace Jasper Cillessen at the Amsterdam Arena after he departed for Barcelona, The Dutch side have had a shaky start to the season, losing against Willem II in the third week of the season, leaving them fourth after four games on seven points.
