Newcastle aiming to land Moroccan defender in Benitez overhaul

|

Newcastle United are hoping to sign Palermo defender Achraf Lazaar, according to George Caulkin of the Times

It has been a busy summer for the Toon Army as Rafa Benitez launches a complete overhaul of the squad that was relegated from the Premier League last season.

The left-back position has long been an issue for the Magpies, with Paul Dummett the only recognised option available selection for much of the past season or so.

Massadio Haïdara has struggled with injuries for most of his three years at St. James’ Park, though summer signing Ciaran Clark is able to play there.

With that in mind, they are reportedly aiming to lure the Palermo ace to the club ahead of the transfer window slamming shut next week.

The 24-year-old Moroccan international would potentially become their 10th summer signing, following the recent arrival of Tottenham defender DeAndre Yedlin.

Thanks to WhoScored, the former Verona ace is noted for his attacking enterprise, with noted strengths in both dribbling and tackling.

The aforementioned Dummett and Clark are perhaps not as attacking and lack the pace to push forward in order to further supplement attacks.

How good is it to see the left-back problem finally being addressed?
