Garang Kuol could be loaned out to a club in Portugal should he join Newcastle United, according to the Sydney Morning Herald

What’s the latest Newcastle United transfer news?

Newcastle are believed to be keen on signing the Central Coast Mariners forward, with The Athletic suggesting last week that the club were in advanced negotiations with A League side over a potential deal.

There are thought to be a number of other European sides keen on a move for the teenage forward, who recently broke into the Australian national team set-up ahead of the World Cup. Kuol, however, was left on the bench as the Socceroos beat New Zealand on Thursday, a game in which Chris Wood played over 70 minutes.

According to the Herald, the 17-year-old is on the “cusp” of a “lucrative” move to St James’ Park and could be loaned out to a Portuguese side as he would not qualify for a UK work permit right away.

Where does Koul play?

According to Transfermarkt‘s positional data, the 18-year-old’s most prominent position is as a central striker, though their data suggests he’s capable of playing as an attacking midfielder.

What has been said about Kuol?

In quotes sourced by the Herald, Wood said of the teenager: “I haven’t seen him play, but I’ve heard a lot about him over the week or two, with the link.

“I’m sure he’s a very exciting talent if a club like us are looking at him, especially with where the club’s going to go in the next few years.”
