Bruno Guimaraes is unlikely to feature for Brazil in Tuesday’s friendly against Tunisia, according to Globo Esporte.
What’s the latest Newcastle United news?
The midfielder was left on the bench for his country’s 3-0 win over Ghana in Le Harve on Friday night after reports from the same outlet hinted at a thigh injury.
While the problem wasn’t thought to be a significant one, the outlet suggests “in treatment, Bruno Guimarães was left out and should not be able to play against Tunisia.”
Clearly, given his importance to Eddie Howe’s side, any suggestion the 24-year-old has picked up another injury has to be a concern. Indeed, the start to Newcastle’s season has already been decimated by the absences of key players, with Guimaraes, Allan Saint-Maximin, Jonjo Shelvey and Callum Wilson all missing swathes of the campaign thus far.
The extent of Guimaraes’ injury is still unclear, although perhaps the fact he has not been sent home from the national team set-up may suggest it’s not particularly worrying.
Still, heading into a crucial game against Fulham after the international break, it’s far from ideal.
Which other Newcastle players played during the international break?
Nick Pope started for England for their loss away in Italy, while Miguel Almiron played the full 90 minutes in Paraguay’s 3-0 win over the UAE in Vienna.
Earlier in the week, Ryan Fraser provided two assists for Scotland in their 3-0 victory over Ukraine, while Chris Wood lasted just over 70 minutes of New Zealand’s loss to Australia.
