Sven Botman is looking for “clarity” on his future when he returns from international duty.

What’s the latest Newcastle United transfer news?

Much as he was in January, Botman is believed to be Newcastle’s leading defensive target once more.

The Dutchman is expected to leave Lille after they refused to sell him in January and is also attracting interest from Serie A champions, AC Milan.

Despite the October takeover, battling a team like Milan for a player seems very difficult. One of Europe’s most storied clubs, they ended an 11-year wait to return to the top of Italian football and now have Champions League football on offer.

While Botman did admit he was keen on the idea of joining Newcastle in January, the allure of a move to Milan must be tempting.

The latest on that front, as ever, comes from Fabrizio Romano, who tweeted: “AC Milan are Lille are in contact also for Sven Botman, who’s part of Newcastle list.”

What has Botman said about his future?

Currently away on international duty, the 22-year-old told ESPN Netherlands (via Fabrizio Romano): “AC Milan deal? We are working on that. It’s difficult for me to stay distant from things at the moment, I hear something about this almost every day.

“Things are in progress and I hope there will be more clarity before the pre-season.”

Who could Newcastle turn to if Botman moves elsewhere?

Burnley’s James Tarkowski has also been linked with a move to St James’ Park when his contract at Turf Moor expires.

Elsewhere, Manchester City’s Nathan Ake has been touted as a potential target but is reportedly considered too expensive as things stand, while Bournemouth’s Lloyd Kelly has frequently been mentioned as an option.
