Recruitment staff at Newcastle United are set for a meeting to discuss a list of targets ahead of the summer window, according to The Daily Mail

What’s the latest Newcastle United transfer news?

While Eddie Howe’s team are not mathematically safe from relegation, it would take an almighty collapse to see the team fall into the Championship from here. Indeed, they are just four points of off the 35 mark, a tally that kept teams in the Premier League for the last three seasons.

Two losses on the bounce might have ended their recent unbeaten run but it would now take a nine-point swing to see 18th-placed Watford catch Newcastle. Clearly, there’s still work to be done, but safety looks almost certain.

With that in mind, attentions can turn to the first summer window under the PIF ownership. The report suggests there is a meeting set for the club’s recruitment staff as they plot to improve in a number of positions.

Who makes the decisions at Newcastle?

Given the October takeover was ultimately rushed through, it would be fair to suggest Newcastle lack the kind of structure seen at the teams they will want to challenge in the future.

There are yet to be appointments at both a CEO and sporting director level, although that doesn’t mean the right decisions aren’t being made.

Earlier this month, The Athletic revealed chief scout Steve Nickson was “heavily involved” in the recruitment process, a batch of signings to have hit the ground running. Jamaal Lascelles, meanwhile, has praised Howe’s ability to integrate the new arrivals with the players he inherited.

Although there will surely be more of a structure put in place in the years to come, it’s not as if those working at the club haven’t proven themselves.

Who do Newcastle want to sign in January?

Earlier this month, Nothing But Newcastle brought you news that the club – along with AC Milan – remained as the frontrunners in the chase to sign Sven Botman despite fresh interest from West Ham.
