Celtic and are both keen on a move for Newcastle stopper , according to The Chronicle.

What’s the latest Newcastle transfer news?

Both clubs have been credited with an interest in the 24-year-old after an impressive spell with Swansea, which ultimately ended in heartbreak when Cooper’s side lost to in the Championship play-off final.

Across all of the ‘keepers in the second tier during the just gone, Woodman had the ninth-best save percentage rate (72.7%, via FBREF) as well as the sixth-highest clean sheet percentage (44.4%). Still, Newcastle are well-stocked in the goalkeeping department with both Karl Darlow and impressing this season and, given his pathway into the first-team currently looks blocked, interest is seemingly starting to emerge.

Should Newcastle sell Woodman?

Clearly, selling a talented young player who has been on the club’s books for a long time would never be ideal.

Still, The Athletic recently mooted Woodman as a potentially sellable asset considering manager will likely need to sell before he can buy this summer. While, ideally, Darlow would surely be sold considering he’s older, Woodman might be able to command a bigger fee in the transfer market. With a number of clubs reportedly keen, perhaps hoping to spark some kind of bidding war for the player – who England boss Gareth Southgate has talked up in the past – might be one of the best ways of raising money to fund Newcastle’s own signings.

That’s not to suggest Woodman should be sold. It’s just that he could be without having much impact in the short to medium term. Considering the position Newcastle are in as the saga rumbles on, planning for the long-term with any sort of coherent strategy just doesn’t look possible at the moment.
