OPINION
DeAndre Yedlin has been one of Newcastle United’s best players in the last few weeks but it would be fair to say that the USA right-back had a shocker in the 2-0 defeat against Aston Villa in the West Midlands on Monday night. The 26-year-old struggled to cope with Aston Villa’s attackers almost all night and he was responsible for the first goal that the Magpies conceded in the first half. Yedlin shoved Jack Grealish down just outside the penalty area and from the resulting free-kick, Conor Hourihane and Jack Grealish combined with the Ireland international striking the ball past Martin Dubravka. Yedlin was ripped to shreds by Newcastle supporters on Twitter for his display on Monday night and you cannot blame the Toon Army for venting their anger at the American international. He has to do a lot better defensively. Going forward, Yedlin is great. But a right-back has to do his defensive duties well above all else.

Awful from Sports Direct. Nothing attacking wise. Almiron is cack and that was pathetic from Yedlin #nufc #AVFC

Game over. Can’t see us scoring one, let alone two. Never going to achieve much with Yedlin as a right back either. Always too much of a liability. #nufc
