Newcastle United striker Andy Carroll has hailed teammate Joelinton for his role in the Magpies’ 3-2 away win at West Ham.
The Brazilian registered his first assist for the Toon Army on Saturday afternoon, and looked much improved compared to recent weeks.
And Carroll was quick to sing his praises.
Writing on his personal Twitter account, he said: “When the striker plays well the team plays well!
OPINION
Andy Carroll knows a thing or two about dominant centre-forward displays, and this was certainly a much better showing from Joelinton. The main criticism that has been levelled at him so far is that he is lacking in end product, and when he’s working off scraps, like he has been for most of the season, that is a real problem. Against West Ham, however, he looked much more involved. Whether that was because Jonjo Shelvey’s tendency to spray balls over the top allowed Allan Saint-Maximin and Miguel Almiron to get in possession in dangerous positions more often, or whether it was simply him upping his own game, it really worked, and there were plenty of reasons to be optimistic after watching his display. With an assist, a key pass, and three successful dribbles, as per Whoscored, he looked much more well-rounded than he has done previously. If he can keep up this kind of form, things might start looking up for the Toon Army.
