OPINION

Newcastle United attacker Joelinton silenced his critics for at least another week with a terrific performance in the Magpies’ fantastic 3-2 victory over West Ham United on Saturday. The Brazilian was involved from start to finish, getting the assist for Ciaran Clark’s opener and generally performing very, very well. His hold up play was superb at the London Stadium, and Issa Diop and Fabian Balbuena couldn’t cope with him. On a day where Allan Saint-Maximin and Miguel Almiron started to show what they can do, it was Joelinton who linked everything together in the final third. He was fantastic in the air, and when he got the ball down he used it tremendously well. The 23-year-old may never be the prolific number nine the Toon Army desperately want him to be, but he’s clearly a fine team player who brings the best out of his teammates. This was a wonderful return to form for much of this Newcastle team, and Joelinton in particular.
