PSV Eindhoven and Ajax have entered the hunt with Newcastle United for Everton defender Lewis Gibson, according to 90min.
The online outlet claim that the Eredivisie duo are set to use their connections with the 19-year-old’s representatives to help them complete a deal for the former Magpies starlet.
90min report that both PSV and Ajax are the frontrunners for Gibson, with his current deal with the Toffees set to run out at the end of this season.
Gibson’s agents are based in Holland, and that has seen them become aware of the chances of securing the defender for a bargain price.
Newcastle were first linked with Gibson by the Daily Mail at the beginning of October and were exploring the possibility of re-signing him at the end of this season.
OPINION
With Gibson all but set to leave Everton at the end of this season, all that is left for him to decide is which club to join. The Dutch duo are reported to be the frontrunners for his signature because of his agent’s links to Holland, but the fact that Gibson left St James’ Park to join Everton could see Newcastle claim the upper hand in negotiations going forward. Football Insider recently reported that Gibson is very keen to return to the Magpies, and they must use that to their advantage when in talks. It is suggested that the 19-year-old has seen the progress of the Longstaff brothers under Steve Bruce, and that he is eager to be given an opportunity in the Premier League, which would certainly give the impression that a move to Newcastle is definitely more likely to happen than a switch to either of PSV Eindhoven or Ajax.
