Paul Robinson has slammed Newcastle United forward Miguel Almiron for failing to deliver in front of goal since joining the club.

The Sky Sports pundit was worried about his end product and claimed that the Paraguayan international has failed to fulfil the expectations of the club since arriving in January from Atlanta United.

Robinson did, however, admit that you can not question his work rate for the Magpies, but that is overshadowed by his lack of ability in the final third.

“It’s his end product that worries me,” he told Football Insider.

“I think his work ethic and the way he plays is not in question.”

“He came in with big expectations and for me, he hasn’t fulfilled those expectations.”

Almiron has yet to score a single goal for the club despite making 19 appearances at St James’ Park under both Steve Bruce and Rafael Benitez.

OPINION

Robinson is spot on with his verdict on Almiron, the Paraguayan international has simply not been good enough since joining the Magpies. The 25-year-old has been pushed further forward by Bruce to partner Joelinton this season, but that has made no difference to the outcome, as he has even failed to register a single assist as well. Almiron has only averaged 1.3 shots on goal per game according to WhoScored, and his efficiency just isn’t good enough in front of goal. With Joelinton alongside him, Almiron could at least create chances for his teammates but he doesn’t even do that in games, averaging 0.3 key passes in each outing – not enough to keep his spot in the side. With Dwight Gayle and Andy Carroll both returning from injuries to the first-team setup, it won’t be long before the two forwards get given the nod to replace the South American in the coming weeks.
