OPINION
Newcastle United fans have been through a torrid few months and one of the worst parts of their summer was seeing the club let go off a top-class, Champions League-winning manager like Rafa Benitez to replace him with Steve Bruce – who months earlier had been sacked by Aston Villa in the Championship. Bruce was a hugely underwhelming appointment after the Toon Army was spoilt with Benitez’s presence before so it is no surprise that fans are finding it hard to give the ex-Sunderland manager a chance when he has never really done much of note in his career in the top-flight of English football. That is why Newcastle fans on Twitter are blasting Telegraph’s North-East reporter Luke Edwards for his latest comments. Edwards has done nothing but defend Bruce since his arrival and has accused fans of using “confirmation bias” against the Magpies boss. However it is clear that bias goes two ways. Newcastle fans who never wanted Bruce in will want Bruce out first. Those, like Edwards, who wanted Bruce in will be the last to want him out – if they ever do.

When all and sundrie are telling @nufc fans we should put up and shut up, or be grateful, or stop moaning. The vast majority of #nufc fans pre-empted the start to the season, not simply in results but the manner of them. It is a blatant shambles. We have a damn right to be angry.

What we are witnessing from you, @LukeEdwardsTele, is intense bias in your tweets and your articles in favour of a friend and someone who grants you exclusives, playing the "judge him on results" card when there are 20 years worth of results that we can and have judged Bruce on.

What an utter load of drivel this is.

Fans should not be blamed for our team getting outclassed, outworked and hammered by Norwich City. You've had a mare, Luke
