Newcastle United attacker Joselu has attracted interest from La Liga club Alaves, according to Spanish news outlet AS

The newspaper claim that the Spanish club have shown interest in the 29-year old, alongside another potential target in West Ham forward Lucas Perez.

The Alaves head coach Asier Garitano has identified Joselu, who began his playing career at Real Madrid, as an affordable target in the summer, according to the Chronicle.

The newspaper also claim that there are sources in Spain suggesting that the forward has come out of a scouting meeting favourably and that the player himself would be open to the move.

OPINION

The 29-year old has attracted reported interest from overseas going into the summer transfer window, but has fallen out of favour in Rafa Benitez’s side over the last season, so it seems likely that a potential move could happen in the summer. The attacker has scored three goals and registered a single assist in all competitions for Newcastle this season, which would arguably suggest that the Magpies wouldn’t miss his services if he were to leave before the new Premier League season. The £40,000-per week attacker (Source: Spotrac) could be on the way out, assuming the reported interest is accurate, as it seems like Benitez may be getting rid of dead wood at the club before the new campaign. It may be that the Magpies will aim to bring another forward to St. James’ Park who will do a better job than the Spaniard, and assuming Benitez is offered a new contract at the club in the near future, it seems increasingly likely that there will be new additions coming into the club whether Joselu eventually leaves or not.
