In amongst all the upheaval and madness going on with Newcastle United at the moment, it is still important to recognise the good things that the club have at their disposal. Admittedly, there have been times in the past season when it has been harder to see those things than others, but after a brilliant second half of the campaign that helped them secure safety with some time to spare, the Magpies must realise that there are certain players in the squad that are borderline indispensable. Take Martin Dubravka as one. The big Slovakian stopper signed for the Toon Army a year ago today, and the Premier League posted a tweet of some of his most eye-catching stops to mark the anniversary. Watching them back, you realise just how good he is. His shot stopping is first rate, but it is the commanding presence and organisational skills that he brings to the table as well that really set him apart. The Magpies had looked so shaky at the back for so long before signing him, and while his capture alone was not the sole factor in helping them transform their fortunes, it’s fair to say that it didn’t hurt either.
