There is little doubting that Miguel Almiron has transformed not only Newcastle United’s forward line but their overall fortunes with his performances.

The Paraguayan was a big name capture for the Magpies in the January transfer window, joining from MLS side Atlanta United, and has shown why Rafael Benitez was chasing his capture so intently.

Working in tandem with Salomon Rondon and Ayoze Perez up top, the trio have been crucial in getting Newcastle all but safe in their relegation battle, and the manner in which he has transformed the Magpies’ attack has had Sky Sports pundit and former Chelsea defender Mario Melchiot drooling.

He told Sky Sports News’ Football Centre (01/04, 12:35): “They were missing a key player, when they brought Almiron he gave them the momentum they were looking for because Perez and Rondon just was good, but now they’ve got three going forward.

“They will be very vital. When you play in your own half you need guys who can take them up the field. With the way that Benitez has his team set out, they look really, really, really good. I’m expecting them to be safe.”

His partnership with his fellow forwards in Rondon and Perez has been part of his tremendous impact – which is why he will be nervous about next season if the duo depart St James’ Park.

Doubts have been mounting over both players’ futures on Tyneside, Rondon’s loan not guaranteed to be turned permanent, as reported by the Chronicle, and Perez voicing his desire to head back to Spain after five years in England.

After an impressive half season with the Venezuelan and Spaniard, Almiron might be lining up as part of a whole new forward line next season – and it cannot be certain he will have the same impact.
