You can be sure that Newcastle United fans were double, if not triple, checking that they were not being tricked when reading the newspaper’s on Monday morning, with it being April Fool’s day. However, it seems as though the Telegraph’s Luke Edwards really has provided the Toon Army with the news they have been waiting for all season, claiming that it seems almost certain that Rafael Benitez is going to pen a new contract at the club. It is a bold claim considering there has been no signs from the manager over his future and understandably one that the Newcastle supporters are both excited and sceptical about in equal measure on Twitter. Only time will tell whether Edwards has got it spot on but it is only going to get the hopes of the Magpies faithful sky rocketing – and they are now quite clearly on tenterhooks waiting for the next update. If Benitez does not stay on, the reporter will no doubt have a lot of angry fans getting in touch – so he best hope his information is on the money.
