Newcastle United forward Ayoze Perez has dropped a huge hint that he is looking for a move back to Spain after five years at St James’ Park.

The former Tenerife star arrived at Newcastle back in the summer of 2014 and has established himself as one of the most important players at the club, playing 34 times this season across all competitions and a total of 188 times for the Magpies.

However, the 25-year-old has hinted it is time to move on from Tyneside in the near future, stating that a move back to his home country would be the best thing for his career.

Speaking to El Chiringuito TV, as translated by Sport Witness, he said: “I believe in cycles. There comes a moment where you consider things, there comes a time for a change and after five years, that time has probably come.

“To return to your country in a big team to enjoy the First Division would be something good for my career.”

Opinion

Perez has been a mainstay under Rafael Benitez so the prospect of losing him any time soon will not do the club any favours. Yes, he might not be every fan’s cup of tea but he carries out the job entrusted to him with unerring consistency, defending from the front and making sure he is in the right place at the right time to try and score or set up a teammate. It seems as though he is missing home but at the same time might feel that a move back to Spain will help boost his chances of breaking into the Spanish international side. It remains to be seen as to whether any teams from La Liga are keen on snapping him up this summer but judging by his performances in the Premier League he should not be short of suitors if he does end up asking the Magpies to let him leave. For Newcastle, they have to make sure they get every penny possible from his sale, for he will not be an easy man to replace.
