Newcastle United defender Fabian Schar has revealed what’s impressed him about club record signing Miguel Almiron after his January arrival.

The Paraguayan produced a terrific performance in his full debut against Huddersfield Town on Saturday, and Schar is as excited as everyone else about the 25-year-old.

“We have seen since his first day he has some qualities and he can be a very important player for us,” he told The Chronicle. “He made a really good debut at home. He didn’t score, he was a little unlucky but we could see his qualities and hopefully he can help us in the next few games.

“We have some pace in front, not only him. He has only been here for two or three weeks and he knows what runs he has to do already; he is an intelligent player and, with his pace, he can do a lot of things.”

Almiron fever has hit Tyneside, that’s for sure. The former Atlanta United man has made a huge impact at St James’ Park, both on and off the field. He has given everyone a lift and appears to be a perfect fit alongside Ayoze Perez and Salomon Rondon in the Magpies attack. The Spaniard, in particular, wasn’t having a particularly good season to date, but he looked completely rejuvenated against the Terriers. That’s the Almiron effect – and Schar has clearly been impressed with him as well. Like the Swiss star says, the Paraguayan has unbelievable pace and is a very intelligent player, you can see that from how quickly and how well he has integrated into Rafael Benitez’s side. He’s going to be a huge player for the Magpies in the coming months and, if Saturday was any indication, the team is going to be playing much more attractive football with him in the side.
