Newcastle United goalkeeper Martin Dubravka produced another excellent performance in the Magpies’ 1-1 draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers on Monday night. The Slovakian is already a firm fan favourite on Tyneside, but his standing in the fans’ eyes may have soared to new heights after this showing. He made a number of crucial saves throughout the game to keep Wolves out until Willy Boly’s late equaliser. He is a remarkable shot-stopper, there’s no doubt about that. He made a major error against Tottenham Hotspur recently, but that happens to the best keepers. The impressive thing was how he bounced back from that mistake at Molineux. It didn’t seem to figure in his mind at all on Monday, he was nearly faultless. There has not been such a consistent, quality stopper at St James’ Park since Shay Given’s heyday. Dubravka’s got a long way to go until he’s at the Irishman’s level, but performances like the one against Wolves are only going to endear him more to the Magpies faithful.
