OPINION
Newcastle United captain Jamaal Lascelles’s struggles this season continued in his team’s 1-1 draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers on Monday night with the fans tearing his performance to pieces on Twitter. The Englishman looked shaky throughout and was lucky, particularly in the first half, not to gift the hosts a goal at Molineux. Lascelles is at his core a defender’s defender. He likes the rough and tumble, he’s not a cultured centre half like David Luiz or John Stones. Why, then, did he seem so determined to bring the ball out from the back on Monday? He was trying to spray the ball about like he was Paolo Maldini. Newcastle already have Fabian Schar and Florian Lejeune who are both more than adequate passers out from the back. So it’s a mystery as to why Lascelles felt the need to take that role on himself. He’s not had a good time of it this campaign and Monday’s game was merely the continuation of that.
Nothing but Newcastle has rounded up some of the best tweets below.

Yedlin, Lascelles and Lejeune have been absolutely awful. Each one having a competition as to who can be the most incompetent it seems. #NUFC

Honestly between Lascelles and Yedlin they’re doing the best to give wolves the lead
