OPINION

Many Newcastle fans reacted negatively to the news that young striker Elias Sorensen had been loaned out to League One side Blackpool.

Apart from those who believe that the 19-year-old Dane should be playing first-team football for the Magpies, there were also those who questioned the wisdom of loaning out a player to the crisis-hit Tangerines.

While those concerns definitely have some grounding, the fact is that Sorensen is joining a club challenging for promotion in a division in which he can make a real impact.

Regardless of what is happening behind the scenes at Blackpool, things are obviously working well on the pitch with the Seasiders currently eighth in the table.

Playing in such an environment can only be a good thing for Sorensen, who has hardly played any first-team football in his career so far.

Another thing which points to his spell in Lancashire being a successful one is the fate of teammate Sean Longstaff.

The 21-year-old midfielder spent the entirety of the 2017/18 campaign on loan at Bloomfield Road, making 45 appearances and scoring nine goals for the club.

Fast forward until now and Longstaff is beginning to thrive for the first-team at St. James’ Park, putting in a couple of brilliant displays in recent weeks to stake his claim for a regular place.

The contribution of Blackpool to Longstaff’s development cannot be underestimated, and there is no reason why the same cannot happen with Sorensen.

The excitement surrounding the prolific 19-year-old goal machine is understandable, but it is spells like this which will make him a player worthy of a place in the first-team on Tyneside.

Newcastle fans must merely be patient, as they were with Longstaff, and the results will inevitably come after the club negotiated what looks like a perfect move for Sorensen.
