Robbie Fowler predicted Newcastle United to defeat Fulham 2-1 when the sides clash at St James Park on Saturday.

The Premier League legend described the Magpies in one-word by calling them strange due to them being recently thrashed by West Ham but backed them to get a win ahead of Christmas due to their fans cheering them on.

While giving his verdict on the next outing for Rafa Benitez’s side, Fowler shared that he feared for their opponents Fulham as he envisions it being a long season for them.

“Big game at the bottom this, and Newcastle are a strange team. Rafa got manager of month and yet they got battered at home by West Ham,” said the retired forward in his predictions for the Daily Star.

“But I fear for Fulham – as much as Claudio Ranieri has produced magic in the past – and I think it is going to be a long season for him. Newcastle, with their fans behind them at Christmas to win.”

OPINION

While Fowler describes the Magpies in a weird way, he at least backed them to get the win on Saturday. The Premier League legend seems baffled by the Magpies’ inconsistent form as he highlights the fact that Benitez did enough to win manager of the month but then watched his side crash to a 3-0 defeat courtesy of the Hammers. Yet despite him clearly thinking the Magpies are unpredictable, he still thinks they’ll have enough to get past Fulham on Saturday. Claudio Ranieri was recently appointed Fulham manager and as of yet, he’s arrival hasn’t had a drastic positive change on the London club’s fortunes. Fulham still sit bottom with just nine points and it’s all starting to look rather bleak for them. The London club spent big in the summer, which Magpies fans were probably a bit envious of,  but they splashed the cash on the wrong parts of their team and it has left them with one of the worst defences to have graced the top-flight in recent seasons.
