You can see where the Newcastle United fans are coming from here. Martin Dubravka simply wasn’t at his best against Burnley in the Magpies’ 2-1 victory on Monday. The Slovakian is usually pretty unflappable but he made a couple of strange errors against the Clarets. He was out of position and beaten too easily by Sam Vokes’ header for Burnley’s goal, while he also had a hairy moment earlier on in the game. However, as some Newcastle fans noted, this was his first big mistake for the club so you can’t criticise him too harshly. Dubravka has shown during his time on Tyneside that he is a top quality shot-stopper but perhaps he could improve some of the other aspects of the position. He looked a little ruffled on Monday and that’s not what you expect to see from someone of Dubravka’s quality. Hopefully he will be back to his normal self for the team’s clash with West Ham United on Saturday.
