His elegant nature in midfield meshes well with Mohamed Diame’s all-action approach and the two of them have found their best form of the season in recent weeks. That continued at Turf Moor, where the pair bossed the middle of midfield. In what was a frantic and scrappy game at times, it was Ki’s reliable passing and consistently sound decision-making that proved the difference. As a Newcastle player if you give Ki the ball you can be pretty sure that the 29-year-old won’t give it away cheaply. That’s so important when you’re scrapping in the bottom half of the Premier League table, something Rafael Benitez’s side may not be doing for long if their midfield maestro keeps playing like this.
