Newcastle United winger Jacob Murphy  must demand a temporary exit from the club as he needs playing time in order for his career to kick on.

The Chronicle reported on Thursday that Rafa Benitez had made it a priority to find a new winger as well as a new full-back in January and was also currently contemplating loaning out Sean Longstaff, Freddie Woodman and Jamie Sterry.

Yet Murphy is just in as much need of a temporary switch as that promising trio especially as his already limited chances will be even less if Benitez successfully signs a new winger.

The 23-year-old has only appeared six times in the Premier League this season and has played no part in the Magpies’ last five league outings, with it being highlight just for him to make the bench.

Murphy has all the tools to be a fantastic winger at St James Park as he possesses pace and power but his final ball has regularly let him down.

The player’s once promising progress has stagnated since joining the Magpies and is continuing to stagnate seeing as he is not being exposed to regular first team football.

When you consider that Murphy is now at an age where he should be more of the finish article and contending for a first-team spot, the player needs to take action to get his career moving in the right direction once again.

As if he sticks around at St James Park, just clinging to the hope he might be thrown the odd minute here and there, it’s only going to hurt him in the long run.

Therefore following the Magpies’ January plans being reported, Murphy needs to demand a temporary exit in the winter window to get his career heading back in the right direction.
