Newcastle United want to offload Achraf Lazaar on a permanent basis in the New Year, according to the Chronicle.

The regional newspaper reports on its website that the Magpies want to balance the books in the January transfer window, which means that they are looking to sell the outcast, with Genoa interested in his services.

The Serie A outfit went in for Moroccan international Lazaar in the summer but a move failed to materialise, while the report also states that Newcastle will try to convince Turkish club Bursaspor to sign Henri Saivet on a permanent basis rather than just keep him on loan.

OPINION

Lazaar would have no doubt been hoping that Rafa Benitez would pick him to fill in for the injured Paul Dummett, but the manager decided to go with a back five instead that included Ciaran Clark. This would have been a kick in the teeth for him, as it pretty much implies that he is of no use to the club anymore. The fact that United are keen to sell him once again in January does not come as a surprise in the slightest – even if Lazaar thought that he was in with a shout after training with the first team previously. United need the funds to bring in a new full-back, so balancing the books by offloading the rarely-seen player does seem like the best bet. His future on Tyneside looks very bleak indeed and there now looks to be nothing in store for him at Newcastle if this report is anything to go by.
