Newcastle United must snatch Troy Deeney from Watford as he would be able to instantly hit the ground running at St James Park.

The Northern Echo reported that Rafa Benitez was now hopeful that the Magpies would break their transfer record in January, even if he hasn’t been made aware of the transfer budget as of yet, which means there’s a chance the club will have the funds to tempt the Hornets into selling their veteran forward.

The newspaper went on to list several attacking targets being looked at, mostly ones without Premier League experience, before revealing that Benitez was a long-time admirer of Deeney.

However the report quickly added that Mike Ashley would be unlikely to sanction a major financial outlay on Deeney due to the player being 30-years-old.

The Chronicle reported a similar tale revealing that why Benitez would like an experienced Premier League hitman to arrive, such as Deeney, Ashley would be a hurdle to any potential deal due to it not fitting the club’s age profile.

Yet the Magpies must find a way to change Ashley’s mind, especially if they’re still in the relegation fight come January, as they will need goals fast.

Benitez’s side are yet to rack up a win in the league so far this season, mainly due to them being terrible in front of goal, and it would be better to invest in a proven Premier League attacker rather than someone who would need time to settle in the division in January.

Deeney may be a regular fixture of Watford’s team but that doesn’t mean the Hornets wouldn’t potential considering sell him if the right offer was made, especially if a deal was wrapped up in time for them to bring replacement to the club.

The 30-year-old has scored 30 goals in the Premier League during his career, with two coming this season, and would thrive at St James Park given the service that could be provided to him.

When Newcastle United’s creative players on point they are capable of create chance after chance and Deeney is more than capable of turning them home.

For instance during the recent 1-0 defeat to Brighton the Magpies had 27 shots on goal, with only six on target, and it’s clear that someone with Deeney’s finishing ability would have had made at least one of those chances to have an opportunity on goal count.

Therefore the Magpies must snatch Deeney to give Benitez a player he admires to work with, despite Ashley’s potential stance, as it would ensure that goals would be scored from January.
