Newcastle United will make Eintracht Frankfurt forward Sebastien Haller their number one transfer target, according  to the Northern Echo.

The newspaper claim that the 24-year-old attacker is set to become the Magpies’ key target over the next couple of months after being heavily scouted by the club over the last couple of years.

The Northern Echo report that despite Haller being contracted to Frankfurt until 2021, there is growing confidence that he can be lured away from the Bundesliga side.

The French centre-forward has scored seven goals, while assisting seven, in his 14 appearances across all competitions this season.

OPINION

This would be a very smart move by the Magpies as Haller’s record this season is very promising. However given his lack of Premier League experience then there is always a risk about whether he’ll be able to continue his form if he makes the jump to the Magpies. Yet given his stats, he’s been in involved in 14 goals so far, and the fact the Magpies will probably be working on a restricted budget then he might be one of the best options they can take. Seeing as Haller has been extensively scouted by the Magpies then it’s likely the club know what they’re getting if they do swoop for him. It’s clear that Rafa Benitez has to add a clinical finisher to his squad in January in order for the Magpies to start being able to win comfortably as at the moment his side are struggling to get even one win based on their form in front of goal. While confidence is growing that Haller will be able to be prised away from his current club, given his form, his price tag may still cause Mike Ashley’s eyes to water.
